Don’t you just love whiteboards?

Recently I began writing a brain teaser of the day on the whiteboard for the kids to solve.
They love it.

SAMPLE BRAIN TEASER

What is greater than God,
more evil than the devil,
the poor have it,
the rich need it,
and if you eat it, you’ll die?

Benefits of Brain Teasers:

  1. Boost brain activity
  2. Strengthen cognitive skills
  3. Provide a sense of accomplishment
  4. Enhance memory and processing speed
  5. Teach a variety of different subjects and topics
  6. Improve attention and concentration
  7. Foster critical and analytical thinking
  8. Increase mental flexibility
  9. Reinforce difficult concepts
  10. Make learning entertaining

Riddles, logic puzzles, word searches, math games, crosswords, and even optical illusions are all examples of fun brain teasers to do!

Now, I’m not that smart. I don’t “get” most brain puzzles.

In order to stump my kids I have to search for puzzles and then know the answer long before I write it on the board.

Giving kids problems that make their little brains smoke is good for them. We are raising problem solvers and out of the box thinkers, so we need to give them lots of practice. Brain Teasers are a great place to begin.

Here are some Brain teasers to get you started. (answers are below)

  1. What gets wetter the more it dries?
  2. Can you name three consecutive days without using the words Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday?
  3.  Timmy’s mother had three children.  The first was named April, the next was named May.  What was the name of the third child?
