One of the biggest questions for new homeschoolers is “which curriculum should we use?”.

Good news? Curriculum is not the most important part of homeschooling!

Curriculum simply refers to what materials you use to teach your kids. That opens up a world of opportunities and experiences, right?

There are different approaches to how to gather materials for teaching your kids.

FUN Workbooks

If you’re looking for a quick supplement to add some flair to your journey, you must try Sarah Janisse Brown materials!

Sarah is an pen & ink artist, dyslexia specialist, world traveler, pancake flipper, potty trainer, happy wife and a homeschooling mother of ten!

All in One Kits and Sets.

Hold on tightly to your checkbook, because you can spend a fortune on teaching materials that you may never use. I always recommend starting simple and adding on later.

My favorite all in one sets for Prek- 6th grade is Evan Moor.

  • Easy to use
  • Highly adaptable
  • Very affordable

Lap-books and Unit Studies

Homeschool Share

A great way to begin exploring piecing your own curriculum together is to do a lapbook as a project.

These hands-on activities are a fun way to dive a little deeper into a subject or topic and to give kids a little more time with art supplies. GREAT NEWS: Lapbooks are EASY.

Notebooking and Journaling

Free Homeschool Resources (Notebooking Pages)

When you want to give your kids even more ability to lean into what they are learning, you might want to try notebooking. Plus, they are PERFECT for teaching multiple kids and ages!!

Notebooking pages are printable templates containing a variety of boxes, borders, clip art, and lines. These templates provide an unintimidating, organized, and pleasant structure for capturing your child’s written words. Here is a set of free templates to try!

I always kept a file folder filled with notebooking pages for my kids to choose from so they could take the reins on any learning lesson!

Movie Learning

Turn any movie or video into a learning activity with a no-prep worksheet!
