I threw an egg at a trash can and missed. Splat!

Tried to sit on a cooler at a tailgate party. A styrofoam cooler. Crunch!

I had a target.

• A trash can
• A seat
• A parking space.

In life, we never achieve all of our goals or hit all of our targets. But without them, we have nothing to aim for, no way to measure success.

Homeschooling is a disaster without goals. Trust me on this one.

So let’s get started.

Step Two: Establish your Teaching Goals.

If you are new to homeschooling, you may already be dizzy choosing curriculum and assigning reading pages from a textbook for your kids to complete.

I would encourage you to pull out some Legos or Dress up clothes and let them play today while you understand this vital step.

I’ll wait while you get the kids kicked off into free play time.

Before you get deep into teaching (or go any further) you need to establish your homeschooling goals.

These goals have little or anything to do with what topics your kids are learning. I am talking about establishing your fundamental homeschooling goals.

But let’s be real.

You’re already up to your eyeballs in advice for what you should be doing to homeschool your kids: Buy this curriculum! Use this teaching style! Parent your kids this way! More, more, more!

You don’t need more on your to-do-list.

You need to find out what you can do today that will set you and your kids up for the best success in the future. Results in the form of homeschooling confidence and the ability to look at any curriculum, club or activity and say, “Nope” or “Heck, Yes!”
